I use PhotoLine which is OK but still confuses me from time to time. Or you can use Gimp which is not Mac-like at all. OK, if you want to spend a lot of money you can get Photoshop. The other software was graphics and subversion. Forgot the name of the software I use now (can look it up, it's only on another machine), it works but isn't particularly good.ģ. On applications: Actually that MSMoney thing is one I experienced, too, and one of three for which I did not find a _good_ replacement. I never came over the missing Delete key and actually the bigger (and cheaper) keyboards have it.Ģ. Do yourself a favor and get a decent keyboard. Plus, you probably know Windows better so find your way more easily on that system.Īfter a while you'll see that some things work better and some things work less well than on Windows.ġ. I think one thing you are experiencing is this common misconception that on the Mac _everything_ would be better than on Windows - something that's simply not the case but if you listen to Apple fanboys you get the impression it would be the case. Maybe mine was a bit worse because at the time Leopard was new and very, very unstable, I experienced several OS crashes a day, something that did not happen to Windows at the time. Sounds pretty similar to my first experience with a Mac (I wrote a similar comment back then). Have others migrated and what are your experiences, workarounds, suggestions etc. Have I made a huge mistake and should have stayed with Windows ? I know I can create a Windows environment on the MAC (Bootcamp, Parallels etc) but that seems to defeat the point of migrating and just re-opens the door to unwanted third party intrusion. For example MS Money has no Apple equivalent (there are freeware options but they just aren't as good), my Phatnoise software for loading FLAC files onto a hard disk for my car only runs on Windows, EAC has no Apple platform etc. In starting to thing about loading on software that I regularly use I've also started to relaise that equivalemnts don't always exist. On a non-music note, issues have also started to raise their heads as I'm learning about the MAC (distinct functional problems like no delete key (!) on the keyboard, limited mouse functionality (and comfort), lack of an easily accessible USB slot etc. For example there were alternatives to players (Songbird instead of ITunes) and add ons that could encode FLAC (Max etc), although I've started to get the feeling that results won't be as good as using software like Media Monkey and EAC. Now I knew that Apple doesn't natively handle FLAC (in which all my music is stored) but thought there were workarounds. So I thought I'd buy in to the Apple 'experience' and got a shiny new 27" IMac last week. I yearned to be free (relatively) of all those annoying accompaniments to a Windows based system - virus threats, cookies and unwanted software forever polluting ones PC etc.
